Listed below are the Alpacas that are for sale or hire from Good Shepherd Farm. Our alpacas have been tested negative for the BVDV
virus and enjoy a clean living environment. The price of an Alpaca will vary based on several variables. Most often, the price of an individual
Alpaca will increase as it matures. A Proven Female, more often than not, will be priced higher than a Maiden of the same quality. A Proven
Female that has already produced offspring may also command a higher price than a female carrying her first pregnancy. Similarly, a male
will sell for a higher price once he begins breeding. A proven male can also command a higher price than an unproven male with no
offspring on the ground. Fiber and Pet are priced based on fleece, personality, and age.
When choosing your next or first Alpaca, please consider Good Shepherd Farm for your farm of choice and take advantage of the data
provided through our ALPACAfax breeding program. An ALPACAfax report is provided with each alpaca and contains a lineage history,
breeding profile, and market value. Even is you do not purchase an Alpaca from us, let us help you find that right Alpaca to meet your
goals. An ALPACAfax is a free service to all first time buyers and cannot be found anywhere else in the industry.
We hope you enjoy your visit and find the right Alpaca to fit your goals. For more information, questions, or to just talk Alpaca, give us a call.
We look forward to talking with you.

Herdsire
A Herdsire is a male alpaca with desirable genetic characteristics that will improve the offspring created from a breeding. Less than 5% of
males possess the extraordinary features desired in a breeding male. The Herdsires of Good Shepherd Farm have been carefully chosen
or been the result of our ALPACAfax breeding program to add quality and value to our herd.
When searching for that right Herdsire, consider a Good Shepherd Farm Herdsire!
Fiber & Pets
Fiber / Pet males are males that do not quite meet the qualities to be a Herdsire in our breeding program. This does not mean that a Fiber /
Pet male does not hold any value in the herd. Fiber / Pet males may produce some excellent fleece, make a companion to other alpacas, or
provide hours of enjoyment as a pet. The males are sold in pairs when purchased to farms with no other alpacas. Alpacas are herding
animals and must be with other Alpacas.
Maiden Female
A female Alpaca that has not yet been bred is referred to as a Maiden. Many times a female is physically mature and ready for breeding by
18-24 months of age. Females that have been bred for the first time are still considered maiden and unproven until their first cria (baby
alpaca) has been born. Listed in the Maiden Females sales page are young females who are not ready to breed or have been bred for the
first time.
Proven Female
A female Alpaca is "proven" when it has successfully produced a live offspring. that has not yet been bred is referred to as a Maiden. Many
times a female is physically mature and ready for breeding by 18-24 months of age. Females that have been bred for the first time are still
considered maiden and unproven until their first cria (baby alpaca) has been born. Listed in the Maiden Females sales page are young
females who are not ready to breed or have been bred for the first time.
